Lark Lantern · 4 days ago
The original version of this courtyard had everything I thought I wanted: lights, benches, and a central path. It still felt stiff. Once I widened the corners and removed a few decorative pieces, the entire space started breathing. Suddenly the path did not feel like a hallway. It felt like an invitation.
What surprised me most was how much the empty foreground helped. A little open space gave the lanterns more presence and made the seating pocket feel intentional instead of accidental.
I am posting this mostly because I think other builders might need the reminder I did: sometimes the thing that makes a district feel alive is not another object. It is the room you finally give the district to exist.
